I have been meaning to take this photo ever since Sonia (our oldest daughter) got these boots for Christmas. The only reason I postponed it a few weeks was because I wasn't sure about the setup for the lighting and the background.
You can see that the original file (found here), is considerably different from the posted version. That is because I originally wanted a warmer than usual type of light - I used an orange filter on the flash, which I shot through an umbrella on the right of the photo. When I uploaded the photo on my computer, I realized I didn't care too much for the orange light, so I tried to at least render some natural tones on Sonia's face by using the color balance tool in Photoshop®. Needless to say that was the beginning of an avalanche of masked layers...
Looking back, I think I could have taken the same shot much easier, without having to go through all the hassle (fun hassle, that is...) of playing with color balance. What I probably should have done is started by lowering my camera's WB and shooting the flash through the same orange filter, which would have come relatively close to natural tones on her face. Correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, on a completely different matter, I should have the new photoblog design for The Obvious up and running in a week or so. I am planning on finishing the Made in Murfreesboro website tomorrow, and then edit all the links on the new website on Wednesday. So if you happen to come back on Thursday and things don't look right, don't take it personally ;).
